By day, Rene manages our front desk and has been an office administrator at HMA for 16 years. By night (and weekend), she is an artist and entrepreneur. This is no side hustle; Rene calls herself a “home body” and finds solace in focussing her mind on her artistic projects. We’ve seen Rene’s artistic style and subject matter evolve over the years, from African wildlife through to vintage cars.
She doesn’t always offer up information about what she’s currently working on, but occasionally we get a sneak preview (if we ask nicely).
We asked Rene to do a custom piece for us of a Coral Tree (Erythina). The sunbird image (below) was her first piece, followed by the stand-alone branch of flowers and the crested barbet. We love all three, and they are proudly framed and displayed in our main office reception area. Come visit us to see the original artworks and to meet the artist!
Rene is married to Richard and has two sons, Shay and Kieran. She grew up in Richards Bay and went to school at Hoërskool Richardsbaai. She joined HMA in November 2006 and is a valued member of our team.
