Experienced, knowledgeable, and wise – Mike is our rock at HMA. He leads by example, always putting client’s interests first. He has shaped HMA to be a business built on integrity.

Mike started his career in law and was admitted to the Legal Bar as a Practising Attorney in May 1980. He has forty years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry and is a Certified Financial Planner. Mike has seen the industry evolve dramatically since the 1980’s, and for the past three decades has protected the independence of HMA. Having experienced the highs and lows of the markets over the years, he is a voice of reason and calm during periods of volatility. Mike is also a founding member and Director of FG Investment Partners.

Mike is based in Paarl but travels extensively across South Africa to see clients. He regularly visits Richards Bay, which remains the primary location for HMA’s long-standing office team.

Mike grew up in Durban and spent much of his working career in Zululand. He lived in Richards Bay for 32 years before relocating to Paarl in 2019. He lives with his wife, Cheryl. They have two daughters, two grandchildren and two cats.

Mike has completed seventeen (!) Comrades Marathons and four full Iron Man events. He is a remarkable endurance athlete and continues to participate in mountain biking, trail running and triathlon events. Mysteriously, he also enjoys chasing a little white ball into thickets, soft sand, and water. He would be the first to admit that he has kept his golfing talent dormant so that he has one more trick up his sleeve for retirement.

Mike is known for his sense of humour, patience, and kindness. He served as an active member of the Rotary Club in Richards Bay for many years. Our client base has grown almost entirely through referrals – which we believe is the ultimate testament to Mike’s integrity and commitment to clients over the past thirty years.
